Implant Placement
A dental implant is titanium structure that is placed to replace the root or roots of a tooth. The dental implants are secured in the jawbone and are not visible once surgically placed. Implants are placed to be able to hold a crown, bridge or dentures. They are made of titanium, which is lightweight, strong and biocompatible, which means that it is not typically rejected by the body. When the implant is placed it becomes fused to bone, called osseointegration (“osseo” – bone; “integration” – fusion or joining with), which is the biological basis of dental implant success.
Next Visit
Once your implant is placed there is a 4-6 month waiting period for proper healing. After this time is over, Dr. Ricaud will check the implant and see if you are ready for restoration at which time you can schedule with our office to restore the implant.
